Those 70ish Girls

​I wish I had a dollar for each time she’s made me laugh

And one for all those times she’s said kind words on my behalf

If someone gave me eight bits each time she offered me her shoulder

And eight more… for keeping all those secrets that I’ve told her

If you gave me just a quarter every time she’s read my story 

(Even though in her case, I’ve made it mandatory…)

$ for the times she’s told me that my spelling’s incorrect

And the grammar that I use is from some ancient dialect

To use Mom’s made-up word…  I’m really not alldumb

After all, this is adding up to be a hefty sum

If someone really offered to give me all that cash

I’d throw this lovely queen a million dollar birthday bash

She’s sweet and neat and beautiful and someone I adore
